Mother’s Day began in America in 1870 when Julia Ward Howe wrote the Mother’s Day Proclamation. Written in response to the American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War, her proclamation called on women to use theirposition as mothers to influence society in fighting for an end to all wars. She called for women to stand up against the unjust violence of war through their roles as wife and mother, to protest the futility of their sons killing other mothers’ sons.
Howe wrote:
Arise, then, women of this day! Arise, all women who have hearts, Whether our baptism be of water or of tears!
Say firmly: “We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies, our husbands will not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause. Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience. We, the women of one country, will be too tender of those of another country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs.”
From the bosom of the devastated Earth a voice goes up with our own. It says: “Disarm! Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice.” Blood does not wipe out dishonor, nor violence indicate possession.
In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask that a general congress of women without limit of nationality may be appointed …to promote the alliance of the different nationalities, the amicable settlement of international questions, the great and general interests of peace.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mommy! :oD
Average GPA admittance to speech pathology grad school program:
CSUN-3.9
NYU-3.6
Looks like I’ll be going out of state for grad school. A part of me is excited and another part is afraid to leave my comfort zone. My family. My friends. But I won’t know where I’m going until a year from now so I’m not going to worry about it.
Finals are stressful, as always. I’m cranky and tired. I’m sure you are all on the same page.
Looking forward to my trip to NY in a couple weeks.
Anyways… happy exams and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Day 33 - A picture of somewhere you went today
This movie. OH MY GOD, THIS MOVIE. I accomplished a life goal today. My mom didn’t let me see this movie in theaters when I was 7, and I held a grudge against her forever because of it. But today I finally saw it in theaters. This movie was the only reason why I wanted to move to America. It sparked my obsession with Leo, who I will meet one day. IT WILL HAPPEN. I still can’t believe I met James Cameron when I was 12. Too amazing. I never noticed how in the movie he mentions going to Santa Monica Pier and riding the roller coaster. That meant nothing to me when I was a little French girl, and now that’s right next to where I live. Alexis and I totally bonded over loving this movie in 9th grade. I’m so glad I have someone I can share this obsession with. There’s no words to describe how much I love this movie, but I do know it’s probably unhealthy. Oh yeah, next time, they’ll totally see the damn iceberg.
I’m so happy we shared this experience together!!! I love our obsession with this movie that only seems to grow over the years.
